WEEK 4: HOUSE MANAGEMENT & RUNNING CREW
As we are getting closer and closer to the end of the event,
the running crew has tightened some loose ends from before for the past week. For
the coming week, we are mainly focusing on getting ready for the playtest and
grand opening night.
Script
Script for Lobby:
As mentioned last week, this script was sent to Writing and
Dean for feedback and we get green lights from them. The lobby crew, as
Receptionists to the Foundation, will get this script and get themselves familiarize/practiced
with the script this week.
Script for Ushers:
This script, including the post-escape room briefing, is finished
and will be rehearsed during the week. The script is well documented that who says
what and divided into brief introduction section (performed in the lobby after
the Receptionist, also the sign of where story/experience begins) and downstairs
section (performed after the players enter the room).
Lobby plan
One significant portion of the lobby design is the videos
and that was our focus for the last two weeks. At the time of this writing, Matt
and Erik are finished with shooting these videos with the writing crew and these
videos are posted by them in their update post already. For the coming week, we
will turn to the actual design of the lobby. We had the vision of it being a classroom
and looping those safety videos we shoot as an orientation to the new recruits
but we still need to finalize ideas such as the floor plan and where to get chairs.
Costume
Our costumes, two lab coats, are expected to be delivered
either Tuesday or Wednesday. And Matt, our Entity player will bring other accessories
such as safety goggles from thanksgiving. Matt and Erik will try them on as
soon as they get their hands on the costumes to ensure that the crew will have
time to solve any unexpected issues such as fitting problems or the change of
needs. These items will be ready for the playtest as the dressed rehearsal.
Sign
The sign group has a better vision of signs after receiving feedback
from Dean. John is working with graphics designer Jiaming from the Marketing team
to rework and design more simple and straightforward signs. This iteration is
expected to be done Tuesday night and handed over to Boynton on Wednesday to be
printed.
Reset list
Today, we toured the under-construction escape room during
class and took notes on our reset list in the meanwhile. Even though we can’t
document exact things we need to reset, with the help of notes and building
team’s briefing, we were able to put together a google sheet listing all the puzzles,
categorized into First and Second room, and the general ideas of how to reset
them, such as reset lock, rearrange puzzle pieces and replace binder pieces. The
next step is to further document how each puzzle is reset and their location after
the building/puzzle crew finished with them. The reset list is expected to be
presented and practiced during the playtest of next week.
