WEEK 3: Writing and Lobby Design Team
For the writing team, the following week was relatively quiet, but there are exciting thing in the works! As usual, we sat down at the end of class and divvied out responsibilities. With the main narrative done, it was time to look into lobby design.
Our initial design idea was a new employee seminar, with inspiration taken from the G.O.A.T Test from Fallout 3. We designed a lobby layout where we will have classroom desks set facing a projector on the far wall, and the running crew will be acting like Foundation employees who are welcoming the players as new employees and ushering them to the seats while they wait for their turn. The stairwell will be left alone for the most part, as the industrial look of it fits with the design of our world, but we will be making signs to place in the stairwell that will designate that the stairs lead to a containment chamber.
As for what will be shown on the projector, we came up with an idea that we think will be really fun and light, but will also introduce the players to the story in an easy way. We took inspiration from the video logs in the game Control, which are presented as old school employee safety videos. We have written up 3 separate script ideas that we can film and play on a loop in the lobby for people to watch as they wait. These videos will range from introducing the players to the Foundation as a whole, and teaching them about the anomalies contained within the Foundation. We will be working with the Running Crew to record and film these videos to be played in the lobby.
For this week, we will be focusing mainly on the recording of the video, which will likely be filmed on Thursday. After that, we will use our time over Thanksgiving break to cut and edit the videos, and to add some post processing and effects to make it fit the old school look.
Aside from lobby design, we also have two separate puzzles that require some work on our part to complete. The first is the Diary Puzzle, where we will need to write a handful of entries that will be used to hide the combination for a lock. The second is the Binder Puzzle, which will be a series of documents that will be ripped up and hidden throughout the second room. Once found and puzzled back together, they will reveal a solution to one of the other puzzles. These puzzles are already mostly finished, and shouldn't interfere with our lobby plans too much.
We are really excited to start working on our lobby video and set dressing the place. Everything is coming together!

Remember that some people won't care or want to engage with story, so film in lobby should be optional and short (2ish minutes? Certainly no more than 5.)
